AI Safety

Last updated 8 October 2026

This page explains how CritixFit's AI coaches work, what they cannot do, and what we have built in to keep you safe. It sits beside our Medical Disclaimer and our Terms of Service.

Our coaches are AI

CritixFit's coaches are AI systems built on large language models from third parties (currently Google). They are not people. AI can be wrong, out of date or incomplete, and can sound sure when it's wrong. You use the coaches and their plans at your own risk, and should check anything important about your health with a qualified professional.

Alex, Marcus, Sofia and Mia are AI coaches. They are not doctors, physiotherapists, dietitians or therapists. For anything medical, they send you to a real professional.

How the coaches work

Alex leads the team and plans your training. Marcus helps with aches and recovery, Sofia with food and fuelling, and Mia with motivation and race nerves. Each coach is an AI that answers using the words you write or say, what you told CritixFit when you joined, and the training and recovery data you chose to connect. You can talk with each of them by chat or by voice.

The way a plan is built does not come from the AI alone. It follows training rules that were written down and checked by a professional triathlon coach, and those rules are part of the software. The AI helps explain and adapt a plan; it does not get to ignore the rules.

Coaches can only work with what they know. If your data is missing, late or wrong, or if you did not mention something, they cannot take it into account.

What the coaches cannot do

  • They cannot examine you, see you move, or know how you feel unless you tell them.
  • They cannot give medical, legal or financial advice, and they are not a replacement for a doctor, a physiotherapist, a dietitian or a therapist.
  • They cannot call for help. They are not a crisis service, and people do not watch the conversations in real time.
  • They can make mistakes, repeat a mistake with confidence, or give an answer that does not suit you. Two people can get different answers to the same question.
  • They cannot promise a result, a finish time or a safe session. A projected time is an estimate.

How we tell you

  • On our website, every coach carries an "AI Coach" tag under their name.
  • In the app, the head coach introduces themselves as an AI coach: "Hi, I'm Alex. I'm your AI coach for training planning and execution. I'll always recommend you see a real doctor or physio for anything medical."

What we built in to keep you safe

  • Safety questions when you join. You tell us whether you have a heart condition, are pregnant, have a history of disordered eating or have joint pain. These answers change your plan and how the coaches speak to you, for example by keeping effort lower or avoiding certain exercises.
  • Pain changes the plan. If you report pain, hard sessions are not given, and strength work avoids the sore area.
  • Gentle build-up. The plan grows in small steps, with easier weeks on a regular rhythm and a lighter final stretch before a race.
  • A fixed crisis reply. If a message suggests someone may be in danger, the coach stops coaching and gives a fixed, reviewed message (see below).
  • A careful reply on food. If a message shows signs of disordered eating, the coaches do not suggest calorie deficits or weight targets, and point to a doctor or a registered dietitian.
  • Age. CritixFit is for people aged 16 and over.
  • Reporting. You can report a reply in the community with the report button, and you can write to us about any answer from a coach at [email protected].

How our coaches handle a crisis

CritixFit's coaches are for training. If a message suggests someone may be thinking about suicide or self-harm, or is in danger, the coach stops coaching and replies with a fixed message. That message encourages the person to talk to someone they trust, and gives a crisis line and the local emergency number. This reply is not written by AI on the spot; it is a fixed text reviewed for this purpose. The same applies to signs of disordered eating: the coaches never suggest calorie deficits or weight targets, and point to a doctor or registered dietitian. CritixFit is for people aged 16 and over. Our coaches are not a crisis service and are not monitored by people in real time. If you or someone else is in danger, call your local emergency number now.

If you need help now

If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number. These crisis lines are free, and we checked each number on 8 October 2026. Numbers can change, so if one does not work, ask your emergency service or search for a local helpline.

What the AI sees about you

To answer you, a coach receives a summary of your training context. Before it is sent, the summary is pruned to statistics and stripped of personal identifiers such as your name and email. During a live voice call, your voice is sent to the AI provider for as long as the call runs. We do not store the audio or a transcript of your calls. The Privacy Policy explains this in full, and the sub-processors page names the companies involved.

Training safely

Your plan is a suggestion. You decide whether and how hard to train. Stop and get medical help if you feel chest pain, dizziness or anything that worries you. Read the full Medical Disclaimer.

Tell us when a coach gets it wrong

If a coach says something that seems wrong, unsafe or unkind, please tell us at [email protected], with what you asked and what it answered. That helps us make the coaches safer.
